It’s hard to believe that September is coming to a close and we’re nearing the end of 2026 at a pace that is wild to me. I want to give a brief update as we close out September and introduce the upcoming Halloween Special.
Acting a fool…
In August, I starred in another 48 Hour Film Festival of St. Louis short film for Say Whaaat! Productions, and through September and October we’re making another short film. This one is a heist thriller. The first day of shooting is this Saturday and the second and final day of shooting is the following Saturday. Wish us luck. You can follow Say Whaaat! on Instagram to keep up with their productions, get behind the scenes, and they’re planning to start releasing some of these short films online — so that’s exciting!
Blood Frequency is available at Double Dog Bookshop!!!
My queer YA horror sci-fi comedy short story Blood Frequency is now available at Double Dog Bookshop in Wentzville, Missouri. You can pick it up in paperback there, located in the spooky section for October. It’s super exciting to see it out in a bookshop and getting some love. Let’s talk about the Halloween Special
This year marks the third year that I’ve done a Halloween Special on the Weaver’s Deep Thoughts newsletter. Each October, to the newly initiated, I trickle out a serialized short story over the course of the month. Every Friday ya’ll get two new chapters until the story is completed on the final Friday of the month. That’s 7 chapters and 1 epilogue, in total.

“In Dreams”
This year’s story is titled “In Dreams,” and I started writing it originally in 2005 or 2006 as a screenplay. I was basing the piece on a couple of bizarre and unexplained nightmare experiences I had where dreams sort of crossed over with the real-world in weird ways. Later in the month, as we’re wrapping up the story, I’ll be sure to trickle out my weird nightmare experiences that inspired this story. And since I’m experimenting in autobiographical writing a little these days, maybe I’ll even write those experiences at some point in a nonfiction form.
The first two chapters are written and waiting for me to send them to you all. You’ll be getting them this Friday, October 2nd, in your inbox. I’m having a lot of fun pulling this weird story together and it definitely feels very different from the first two entries, yet with some similarities at least thematically.
After this year’s Halloween Special is completed and set aside in the library as a complete ebook, I’m thinking I’ll compile the first three Halloween Specials into a paperback. Is this something you’d all like to own and have on your shelf? I’ve enjoyed writing these serials so much and I love the idea of bringing these three unique stories together as a trilogy in a singular printed volume.
